May be a serious fire or electrical risk.
Can reptile heat mats melt.
I m not saying it isn t possible but i don t think its probable.
It depends on the plastic and how hot the heating device is i imagine.
However when i actually opened it the label said it can be used on glass enclosures only and not plastic or anything else.
Would a reptile heat mat melt a bin cage.
I use flex watt heat tape on my plastic shelving unit with a thermo stat for all my roaches and reptiles that are kept in sterilite tubs.
I am putting the heat mat on the side of the tank not the bottom so it will warm the air but he can t lay against it etc the way the tank is set up.
I suspect 2 heat mats one on top of the other has greater potential to melt.
The pad should only get up to about 100 degrees.
When setting up your new reptile pet there are many things that have to be done in the proper order.
This can be very simply achieved by having the proper sized heating pad and placing it correctly on the enclosure.
I bought a reptile heating mat from petsmart to warm my emp and it said it was good for terrarium use only and not aquarium use.
I have seen single heat mats melt just because they had a few cm s of substrate on top of them which caused a thermal block.

Heat mat on a stat in a wooden viv is as safe as a lamp on a stat in a wooden viv the combo has been on sale for as long as i can remember and tbh they ve only started pushing mat stats in the last decade or so more because snakes like to lie on the mat or under it and there have been cases where larger pythons boa and anaconda have suffered contact burns than of a fire safety risk.
It would have to get up to about 500 degrees to melt the plastic.
I use a different strip for each shelf because if i don t want to use the ones with the hissers i can just unplug those strips yet still keep my geckos enclosure at optimum temp.
If something malfunctioned in the heater however the plastic would almost certainly melt or something and that could get icky.
I live in new york and my house has done this as well.
As such i think it would have a potential to overheat the mats so they would fail or maybe melt.
