Caulk Between Floor Tiles

The tile council of north america recommends at least a quarter inch gap between the tile floor and the walls.

Never fill this gap with grout because tile grout is not flexible. I love a quick win guys. If that still has too much movement a silicone should work but it likely won t look as nice. Wherever quarter or eighth round is not used on flooring and i try to avoid it i sometimes caulked there on new homes with tile floors. Squeeze some of the caulking into the void between the vinyl tiles. One of the tricks i used in whitepainting older homes was to caulk all joints tops of baseboards to walls door frames to walls etc. That will have some give in it.

However if you re filling a gap you bette. When you caulk along tile floors the caulk gets into the grout right along the edge of the baseboard. For hardwood vinyl plank or sheet vinyl you could if you need to fill what might look like an unsightly gap. If there are gaps that can t be paint filled a small as possible concave bead works best with paint or wallpaper.

If you don t want to use a transition you could consider using a sanded caulk on the wood to tile spot. If your gap is larger than a 1 4 you should use trim first like quarter round. This diy works on gaps 1 4 and smaller. It creates a uniform clean look.

It ll look much better and hold up longer than a larger bead of caulk. It kind of depends on what flooring material you will be putting down. Use the putty knife to push the caulking down into the gap so that it fills any potential voids that could be under the edges of. Instead fill it with an elastic material capable of sustaining the movement of the floor and the movement of the wall.

I dont care if you use wet rags to clean up the left over caulk or buckets of water it ends. I used that between ceramic tile and wood and it worked well. Caulking is the best choice for this application. Caulking the gaps in trim joints and the gap between flooring baseboards improve water impermeability of the floor.

If you can t fashion the tip of the tube or gun you can finger. If paint can fill the top gap there is no need for caulking it.
